SUPRABHATAM   (Meaning)

      

1. I always worship the Lord of Tiruvinnagar who is as effulgent as crores of rising suns and moons, wearing beautiful silk garments and other glittering ornaments, appearing like a dark shining cloud and with a kind and smiling face, imparting grace to all devotees who bow to Him, adorned with sankha and chakra and a picture of sheer and exquisite beauty, relishing only salt-free offering and who is the consort of Bhoomidevi.

2. May Bhoomidevi with rose-petal -like eyes, found and brought up by Markandeya as his foster-daughter, (verily as a reward for his intense penance) married to the Lord, relishing only saltless offerings, and  showering Her grace on the devotees, extend Her benevolence and bestow all prosperity upon us.

3. O Rama, beloved Son of Kausalya, O Purushottama, it has dawned. Do wake up to discharge your morning ablutions and rituals.

4. O Lord of all, consort of Bhoomidevi, Lord of Tiruvinnagar, do arise to bestow Your benevolence on this world.

5. O, Mother Bhoomidevi with long enchanting eyes! You blessed Markandeya by becoming his daughter. You are full of kindness to your devotees. Shower your blessings on your devotees and protect us from evil.

6. O, Bhoomidevi, You manifested Yourself in the family of sage Mrikandu. You are also the cause of glory of the Lord Himself and you are His darling consort. Wake up, opening your lotus like eyes, hearing the soft pleasing tune of the musical instruments being played for you.

7. O, Lord of Tiruvinnagar, the blazing sun rises on the east. Brahmins are performing their morning rituals like sandhya - vandana. Enough of your sleep and do wake up. Let the day augur well to all.

8. O, Lord of Tiruvinnagar, Brahma and other devas are waiting at the entrance of your temple with myriad flowers, laden with honey, to offer their prayers to you. Do wake up.

9. O, lord of Tiruvinagar ,Poigai alwar, Peyalwar, Nammalwar and Tirumangai alwar are waiting at your door steps to worship you and get your blessing. Do wake up.

10. O lord of thiruvinnagar, you are praised by Alwars as the lord of srivaikuntam and your temple vimanam is called suddhananda (pure bliss). The sleep which you are feigning is also for the good of the world. You are all the while thinking how to save mankind. Do wake up to shower your blessings.

11. O lord of Tiruvinnagar, to bless the sage Markandeya, being pleased with his penance, you appeared here and married Bhoomidevi in this sacred place. Now, both of you do wake up and bless us.

12. O lord of Tiruvinnagar, previously you took the form of a boar and lifted Mother Earth from the oceans. Is it because of this that you are tired now and sleeping? Are you now fresh? Do wake up.

13. O lord of Tiruvinnagar, because of your mani festation here in the tulasi forests in the star sravanam, both of them are held sacred by your devotees. You enjoy the saltless offerings because you willingly consented to it, to marry bhoomdevi .if your auspicious grace falls on us, we will be purified of our sins. Do wake up.

14. O lord of Tiruvinnagar, Nammalwar worships and enjoys You in 5 forms, as Ponnappan, Maniappan, Muthappan, Ennappan and Tiruvinnagarappan. Do wake up.

15. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, Nathamuni, Alavandar, Ramanuja and other acharyas, afer having had a holy bath in the Ahoratra pushkarini, are eagerly waiting with folded hands, to worship You. Do wake up.

16. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, Vedanta Desika, who is the ocean of knowledge and good qualities, is waiting with numerous disciples to worship You. Do wake up.

17. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, You are worshipped by archakas according to Vaikhanasa Agamas. You ward off all evil of your devotees. We are very eagerly waiting to have Your Viswarupa darsan in the early morning. Do wake up.

18. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, You with Your kind grace, are showing us with Your right hand Your lotus feet, indicating that those who bow at your feet can gain all prosperity. O Lord of Bhoomidevi, do wake up.

19. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, Bhoomi Devi, filled with mercy for the erring humanity, is asking you with folded hands what is the best means for man to get freed from samsara and attain moksha. You are indicating with your right hand your lotus feet, showing that man should seek them as his refuge. O Lord of Bhoomidevi, do wake up.

20. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, by keeping Your left hand on your thigh, you are indicating that for those who surrender at your holy feet, the ocean of samsara is only thigh - deep (or knee-deep). O Lord of Bhoomidevi, do wake up.

21. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, after suffering the pangs of separation from you, Nammalwar reunited with you in this holy place. Hence you decided to ternally reside here. O Lord, do wake up.

22. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, Tirumangai alwar has sung repeatedly that he will not be interested in this worldly life, if only you show up your beautiful and enchanting figure. O Lord, do wake up.

23. O Lord of Bhoomidevi, Tirumangai alwar has asserted in his prabandhas (poetry) that he would not praise any other deva, who can give only temporary, perishable fruits, and would enjoy doing service to you only. Do wake up.

24. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, Tirumangai alwar admits that because he forgot you, he had to undergo the cycle of rebirth, old age and death several times. O Lord of Bhoomidevi, do wake up.

25. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, you and Mahalakshmi decided at Sri Vaikunta itself to come to this place separately, get married and stay here eternally, for the benefit of humanity. Thus Markandeya's penance was only an excuse for both of you to come here. O, Lord of Bhoomidevi, do wake up.

26. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, the nityasuris have enjoyed the beauty of your fully blossomed lotus like eyes in Sri Vaikuntam. Now they are admiring and enjoying your sleeping beauty here. O Lord of Bhoomidevi, do wake up.

27. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, owing to their good fortune, devotees, who are eager to do service to you, are awaiting at your door step with all materials for worship. O Lord of Bhoomidevi, do wake up.

28. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, you have five kinds of forms viz. Para, vyuha, vibhava, antaryami and archa. Fortunate devotees have gathered here and are eagerly waiting to enjoy and worship your archa form here. Do wake up, O Lord of all worlds.

29. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, though there are 108 divya desas praised by Nammalwar and other alwars in their prabandhas, we have gathered here to worship and serve you only. Do bestow your grace on us, your devotees. Do wake up.

30. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, we want to spend our entire life here only, doing service to you recounting your kindness and other qualities, partaking food that was offered to you earlier and worshipping you only. Do wake up to shower your blessings and mercy on us.

31. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, Sri Vaikuntam is beyondthe limitations of time and nature, full of bliss and praised by Vedas. You have left this Sri vaikuntam and manifested yourself here, only to protect your dear devotees. Lord of Bhoomidevi, do wake up.

32. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, Vedanta Desika has prepared the garland of hymns, out of the gems of qualities of the Lord, taken out of the milky-ocean of Brahma-sutras and alwars' prabandhas. Do wake up and wear the garland.

33. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, Your devotees are waiting with golden vessels containing waters from the holy rivers, to which cardamom and other fragrant materials have been added. O Lord of Bhoomidevi, do wake up and accept their services.

34. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, your devotees are awaiting to offer appropriate pujas to you at appropriate times. O, ocean of divine qualities, do, wake up.

35. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar, Bhoomidevi has excelled you in showering Her kindness and grace upon the devotees and helping them to attain you. She equals you in being the ultimate goal and also in being the means for attaining the goal. O Lord, do wake up with our mother, Bhoomidevi.

36. O Lord of Tiruvinnagar let all devotees recite this holy Suprabhatam at your temple in the early morning and enjoy the nectar of your holy feet. Do bless us with all prosperity.
