PRAPATTI   (Meaning)

      

1. Bhoomidevi stands out like a kalpaka tree that grants all the desires of devotees. She is patience personified. She is our mother, over flowing with mercy. Like the proverbial kamadhenu, She gives us all, driving away our poverty. She is the queen of the Lord of Tiruvinnagar. I take refuge at Her holy feet.

2. The Lord manifested here at Tiruvinnagar, pleased by Markandeya's penance. He is a perfect match to our Mother Bhoomidevi in all respects. He kicked with His tender feet the wicked sakatasura and killed him. I take refuge at the lotus feet of the Lord of Bhoomidevi.

3. The Lord's feet released two gandharvas from the curse of being two arjuna trees (during Krishnavatara) and released Ahalya from being a stone (during Ramavatara). He is eternally staying at Tiruvinnagar. I take refuge at the lotus feet of the Lord of Bhoomidevi.

4. The Lord shines eternally in the hearts of His devotees, in the vedas, in Sri Vaikunta and on the banks of Ahoratra pushkarini in this holy place. He is also with Bhoomidevi always. I take refuge at the lotus feet of the Lord of Bhoomidevi.

5. The Lord's feet danced on the hoods of the serpent Kalinga were washed with holy waters by Brahma (which then became river Ganga) and were worshipped by Siva, who was purified by the holy waters of Ganga. I take refuge at the lotus feet of the Lord of Bhoomidevi.

6. In Trivikrama avatara the Lord strode across all the seven worlds. He is always worshipped by Brahma and other devas. He destroyed the pride of the demon king Mahabali. I take refuge at the lotus fleet of the Lord of Bhoomidevi.

7. The Lord went as a messenger for Pandavas and took delight in roaming in Brindavan. He is always intent in helping His devotees. I take refuge at the lotus feet of the Lord of Bhoomidevi.

8. The Lord of Tiruvinnagar is praised by Nammalwar, Tirumangai alwar, Poigai alwar and Peyalwar in their prabandhas. He is worshipped with love by Nathamuni and Vedanta Desika. I take refuge at the lotus feet of the lord of Bhoomidevi.

9. The Lord of Tiruvinnagar has taken a vow to protect His devotees who surrender at His feet. He is the indwelling god in all-conflicting, disharmonious objects. His devotees lovingly worship Him with tulasi and flowers. I take refuge at the lotus feet of the Lord of Bhoomidevi.

10. The Lord's feet received the fragrant flowers flowing with honey, offered by Indra and other devas. He showed His simplicity by becoming the chariot-driver of Arjuna. People marvel at His simplicity and love for devotees. I take refuge at the lotus feet of the Lord of Bhoomidevi.

11. The Lord's feet shine with exquisite beauty and effulgence. The holy feet are having divine in signia like sankha and chakra. Even the nails of the fingers of the divine feet are glowing with splendour. I take refuge at the lotus feet of the Lord of Bhoomidevi.

12. Nammalwar praised the Lord of Tiruvinnagar as follows: You are the inner force of poverty and riches, joy and sorrow, sins and virtues you are the Lord of villages and cities you are present as the inner soul of all worlds and all objects. You have a resplendent and shining figure. You are the refuge of devotees and terror to their enemies. You take the form of brightness and darkness. Thus you abide in all mutually conflicting things and objects.
